pop quiz

today in class we took a pop quiz that I  got like a 70 on, at least I hope I did that good. after I finished stressing out with the quiz we took notes on some of the rulers of Athens. We learned about isogoras who was part of the rich and elite members of Athens. we also learned about cleithenes who had the support of the common people who lived in Athens.

athens

today in class we took more notes on the power point about the leaders of Athens and how they ran their people. We learned about Draco who was a cruel leader who punished many people who committed petty crimes to death. he allowed Debt slavery to occur. Solons reforms then began to equal things out allowing poor people to press charges against the wealthy people. these were the first tiny steps towards creating democracy.

greece

today in class we saw even more of the powerpoint. we learned about the different types of governments such as tyrants who are cruel leaders today but back in Greece times they were people who rose to power by appealing to the common people to support them.

Homer

Today in class we saw more of the powerpoint and took more notes about Greece. We learned about The author Homer, He may have been real or he could have been a god himself because he was a blind storyteller who traveled from town to town teaching about the Trojan war and Odysseus on his journey home from the 10 year war.

Today in western Civilization we took notes on the same pages as last week but i had already finished my notes so i began writing this blog. Some of the things i learned from the notes i took and the powerpoint we saw are Most major cities back during ancient Greece built around bodies of water so they could use the water to irrigate their crops, The Mediterranean sea surrounds Greece, and Mediterranean means middle of the earth. The Greeks created myths about their gods. Then we saw more of the presentation and learned more about the geography of Greece and its size relative to other countries.

Classical grease

Today we read pages 118-126 and took notes on classical Greece in our notebooks. we learned that the roots of the Greek culture are based on interactions with the Mycenaean’s, Minoans, and the Dorian culture. Because three-fourths of Greece was covered in mountains they were politically divided, so they created small independent communities that the people were loyal to these communities. The Mycenaean’s settled on Greek mainland where they adapted the Minoans writing styling. They then went to war with Troy for 10 years. We then saw a PowerPoint on the great ancient cities and how they all are around rivers where they can settle and become domesticated.

1st day of Western Civ

Today was my first day of Western Civilization in Mr. Schick’s class. It was a 2-hour delay today so class was only 40 minutes. We only had time to setup our new blogger accounts. We were supposed to read pages 118-126 in the “Ancient World History” text book. We had to send our blogger URL to Mr. Schick. It wasn’t a very eventful class today. We are going to get new seats sometime soon but the seats we get are going to be seats that we do not want be in. Most of the people in our class are people that I know or have had other classes with, about 5 are people I have never met before or had class with. I am hoping to have another great semester in Mr. Schicks class.
