today in class we took more notes on the power point about the leaders of Athens and how they ran their people.
We learned about Draco who was a cruel leader who punished many people who committed petty crimes to death. he allowed Debt slavery to occur.
Solons reforms then began to equal things out allowing poor people to press charges against the wealthy people. these were the first tiny steps towards creating democracy.

1. hellenistic - a blend of greek, Egyptian, Persian, and Indian cultures. the language Koine was spoken in most hellenistic cultures, it enabled traders and people from different places to communicate with each other.  Alexandria - The center of commerce for the Hellenistic culture.  Euclid - Greek mathematician who applied the concept of logic to geometry. Archimedes - he accurately estimated the value of PI. colossus of Rhodes - the largest hellenistic statue created. 3. Trade spread different cultural ideas around and created diversity. 4. Euclid - his geometry helped Eratothenes and Aristarchus find the size of the earth. 5. They both believed we should live in peace.
