the fall of the Roman Empire

When the pax romana ended the economy of Rome was on the decline. Pirates and enemy tribes were disrupting trade at sea They began running out of silver and gold so the government raised taxes they used less and less silver and gold in coins which created an inflation agriculture began struggling because soil lost its fertility which eventually lead to a food shortage. eventually diseases were spreading and population was declining

today we took the test which was really easy because we were allowed to use our blogs. then we took notes on the rise of christianity, the fall of the roman empire, and the roots of western civilization.

new emperors

Julius Caesar

Today in class we began learning about Julius caesar, the great military general who conquered gual. Julius, pompey, and the richest man in rome teamed up and wanted to be the 3 leaders of rome. on the way back Julius was told to stop but he passed the point of no return and went back to Rome.

Punic war

today we learned about the punic wars. These wars lasted 100+ years and there were three of them. In the first war Carthage went by sea to attack rome and they lost in the second battle carthage attacked by land by walking allthe way around the 3rd wwas when rome completly burned and destroyed all of carthage

Goverment

Today we learned how the US modeled their government off of the Roman empire. For example both governments have 3 branches. The branches are: Legislative Executive  Judicial Rome had 2 consuls who had the power to veto each other The u.s has a president and VP the president has complete veto power  

Rule of the roman empire

after tarquin the proud's family was kicked out of Rome the people decided that they didn't want to deal with another corrupt king in power so they elected 2 consuls. A consul is an elected official who is in office for only one year, the consul was always a patrician(aristocrat), they would deal with justice, creating laws, and were the chief's of the military. The Plebs were still unhappy because they were treaty unfairly so they went on strike from the military until their were written laws(the law of the twelve tables) and they had Tribunes.

today we took notes on the roman empire while 2 other kids took the test on ancient greece. i learned that rome was founded in 753 B.C. by romulos and remes, the twin sons of the god of mars and a latin prince.
